The 13th of December 2021

Eida stops supplying electricity

The company Eida, a limited company based in Beckerich, is forced to stop supplying electricity.

The tense situation on the energy markets led Anode's supplier, and consequently Anode, Eida's partner in electricity supply to Luxembourg, to go bankrupt and stop its supply activities without notice.

As a result, and despite all the efforts made by Eida, the search for an alternative solution on an electricity market in exceptional condition was unsuccessful.

THE SUPPLY TO CUSTOMERS IS ENSURED WITHOUT INTERRUPTION,

as the mechanism of last resort supply has been initiated. In accordance with the legal provisions, customers will be supplied by the supplier of last resort, Enovos, starting on the 14th of December 2021.

They will then have until the end of June 2022 (customers with a voltage below 400V) and until the end of February 2022 (medium and high voltage customers) to choose a market offer from one of the electricity suppliers in the Grand Duchy.

Eida has coordinated the procedure in exchange with the Institut Luxembourgeois de Régulation (ILR), Creos, the Ministère de l'Energie et de l'Aménagement du territoire and Enovos, and thanks them expressly for their help. Eida, Enovos and the distribution system operators will work together to ensure the transition under the best conditions.

These are very difficult times for the entire Eida team, who has to suffer the consequences of these circumstances without being responsible for them.
Eida would like to thank all its customers for their loyalty and hopes to have fulfilled their expectations so far.

The team will remain available for any questions: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Anode Energie will file for bankruptcy with the district court of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The filing concerns the group companies Holding 3274 B.V., EnergiePlaza B.V., Energie I&V B.V. and Kleinverbruik Energie der Nederlanden B.V.

The cause of the bankruptcy is that the party from which Anode Energie purchases its energy can no longer meet its delivery obligations as a result of the sharply increased energy prices.

Although Anode Energie had hedged its forward positions and on that basis could have met its obligations for the months ahead, even at current energy prices, it is thus forced to purchase the required energy at current market prices, which its available liquidity does not allow.

As an illustration: in November 2020 the price of a MWh of electricity was on average EUR 41.04, and of a MWh of gas EUR 13.75, in November 2021 this was EUR 186.25 and EUR 80.82 respectively.

Anode Energie has advised the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) of the bankruptcy petition in view of its 14,000 (direct and indirect) small-scale customers. Anode Energie will advise its large-scale customers as soon as possible.

Anode Energie regrets that it does not have better news for its customers and its highly dedicated staff.

Anode Energie was one of the first parties to become active in the liberalized Dutch energy market in 2001, and has since then focused on developing innovative products and offering tailor-made solutions.
